On my way to Portland

I was awake at dawn this morning before 5am because it was so rough in the anchorage, that I felt seasick.

It took me a little more than 5 hours to get here and it is a beautiful place.

These kayakers were out enjoying the summer sunshine.

The ferry boat was full of tourists.

Sail to Seguin Island

Well with my delay, cleaning out my raw water strainer, I didn't get to Portland, and I stopped off on the way at Seguin Island.

There are just two other boats here on this isolated outer island. It does have a lighthouse and a keeper here and by the looks of things some children are also residents.

Problem on my way to Portland

There is a lot of weed in the water here in Maine and about an hour outside of Rockland, steam started appearing in my exhaust so I checked the temperature of my exhaust elbow. I usually check it while I am motoring and normally it is in the high 70's but when I checked it with my thermometer gun it was 97 degrees. So I stopped the engine and proceeded to take apart my raw water filter and after a while, one of the lobster fishermen came over to see if I was okay.

I showed him my raw water strainer.

It was full of weed and needed clearing. I asked him if he had any lobsters for sale.

He kindly gave me 3 of them that I plan on eating tonight.

Tuesday night sail around the cans

Now here is a tradition that is played out on weekdays in harbors all around the world including Rockland Harbor.

John needed rail meat for his beautiful wooden folk boat so i jumped at the opportunity.

A different John was also onboard as crew and here are the three of us at day's end after a successful day of racing.

Camden, Maine

Yet another gorgeous harbor.

The town is easy to walk around with lots of restaurants and cafes with art galleries.

There is a wooden boat festival here this coming weekend with hundreds of old boats that I would love to see but I have to keep moving.

Rockland Lobsterfest

I missed last weekend's Seven Seas Cruising Association GAM here in Rockland and I am going to miss the world's largest Lobsterfest that starts tomorrow.

They are already gearing up to cater for the crowds that are expected to the town where this guy is king.

The museum is worth a look and so is the huge marine store over the road.

Of course if you want to buy some art work or dine out at one of the many restaurants on main St Rockland has it all.

Rockport, Maine

I rented a bike today so that I could visit some neighboring towns and the first one I came across was Rockport.

There is not much of a town here and indeed most of the land around the bay is quite rural.

One thing that I had to take a picture of was a Morris Minor that was parked on the waterfront.

I spent many years driving one of these and this particular one was in top notch condition.
This town is famous for a friendly seal named Andre that a movie was made about.
