Portsmouth......Rich in history

What you are looking at is an old lightship that has been turned into a museum and sits on the Portsmouth waterfront. Lightships were used to help mariners avoid dangerous shoals or enter safely into harbours at night. It is one of a 6 museums in downtown Portsmouth, just a minutes walk away from my boat. There is the Naval Shipyard museum.
It has some terrific artifacts inside.
There is a Railroad Museum, a Jewish Culteral Museum, an Art and Cultural Center and a Children's Museum.
The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum includes activities like dribbling a basketball, pitching a baseball and driving a stock car on a track.
And just off the downtown area, is a historic district with some beautiful old homes.
Elk's Lodge is a 1894 cracker.
It is know locally as Dr Madblood's Castle, owned by the host of the TV program Friday Night Frights.
